Adding favicon to your website

Favorite icons shortly known as favicons are those tiny little icons that are shown on the left of your web browser's address bar, and are a part of your overall site branding. It is a graphic image (icon) associated with a particular web page or website.
Favicons are really tiny icons; and are having dimension of
16x16 pixels or 32x32 pixels, using either 8-bit or 24-bit colors -not an awful lot of space to work with. The format of the image must be one of PNG, GIF or ICO.

To display the favicons for your webpage follow the given process (HTML4.01):

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
<html>
[...]
[...]
<head>
<link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://yoursite.com/icon.png">
[...]
</head>
[...]
</html>

Here the favicon to be displayed is placed to the root level of your website, where your index page lies. You can change the directory according to the folder where your favicon is placed. Example:- href="http://yousite.com/images/icon.png"

Note:- Your favicon should be placed between <head> and </head> section of your webpage.
